The story

Looking Back tells the story of two young teenagers and explores how their differences are perceived by the world around them. At its heart is a question: how much of what we see in another person comes from who they are, and how much comes from the fears we project onto them?

Through society’s eyes

We wanted to explore the distance between a person and the assumptions made about them. Through these two characters, the film reflects on how modern society turns difference into a reason for suspicion, shaping the way we look at people before we get to know them.

Their shared moments bring the story closer: a glance, a smile, the simple ease of lying in the grass together. Small gestures that give space to the individuals behind those assumptions.

A quieter perspective

Shot at Borgo del Sole in the Tuscan countryside, the film places its characters among wildflowers, open fields, and distant hills. The earthy colours and intimate framing give these moments a quiet, reflective quality, keeping our attention on their expressions and their connection.

Looking Back invites viewers to reconsider their own gaze, returning to a thought that runs through the film: we were all children once. We all knew what it meant to be curious, vulnerable, and still discovering the world—and something of those children remains in each of us.

Keep exploring.
